What To Do Immediately When Your Child Gets The Flu
Influenza, better known as the flu, is a respiratory virus that spreads easily to others through droplets.
A 2018 study found that children are more likely to get sick from the flu and twice as likely to develop flu symptoms than older adults.
LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ADULT AND INFANT FLU SYMPTOMS
Watch out for typical signs of illness that can present differently in babies than adults. Children are more likely to develop GI symptoms (i.e., diarrhea, vomiting) and a higher fever than adults when struggling with the flu.
CHECK-IN WITH YOUR PEDIATRICIAN
Once you identify flu symptoms, call your child’s pediatrician to discuss any medication recommendations.
Some providers prescribe an antiviral medication to help babies feel better more quickly and prevent further complications.
SMALLER MEALS MORE OFTEN
For babies, try starting with 1-2 teaspoons of breastmilk or formula every 5-10 minutes. For older children, cut normal size portions in half, feeding them more frequently instead. Assess how much your child is eating and going to the bathroom.
HYDRATE
Dehydration is a serious risk for infants and small children with the flu. If your little one has a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, they may lose too much water. Many babies feed less when sick, and their lost fluids are not replenished.
SUCTION OUT THE SNOT!
Keep your little one’s nose clear with the NozeBot nasal aspirator by Dr. Noze Best.
KNOW WHEN TO VISIT THE HOSPITAL
The influenza virus is dangerous in young children and infants. It’s important to know when to seek medical attention.

"I bought a small nasal aspirator first and it didn’t really work, it took forever to get boogies out and I didn’t want to irritate my baby’s nose. The nozeBot is great, I put a drop of saline in the nostril and suction right away. The whole process takes about a minute.
